Winners of the 2019 Summer NABC Robot Individual

The Summer North American Bridge Championship (NABC) is now in progress in Las Vegas, with numerous BBOers and BBO staffers participating. As it has already become a tradition, the NABC Robot Individual preluded the live championships, giving participants a good warm-up in a competitive field of over 1900 players and a chance to win a real NABC title, along with red/gold masterpoints.

This summer’s NABC Robot Individual saw two Canadians in close battle for the title: Taydog (Martin Henneberger) and FredP (Fred Pollack) dominated the leaderboards in all three sessions, with Fred leading the first two days, and Martin coming strong on the third day with an all-or-nothing strategy to grab the title.

Sheng Li (sheng319 on BBO) won flight B with 64.52%, just 0.06% ahead of day 2 leader John Mayne (JRMayne). Li had been second after two days. They finished seventh and eighth overall. Originally from China, Li resides in New York now and he does freelance work in finance. “Robot bridge is a great way to keep in shape for «real» bridge when I do not have a partner or time,” he says.

Sean McNally (Sean9816) won flight C with 64.08%. He placed 11th overall and led flight C each day of the event after scoring 69.46% the first day. McNally is a senior at the University of Minnesota majoring in math “and bridge – although the university keeps telling me that last one doesn’t count,” he said. He will be playing in the Collegiate Bridge Bowl in Las Vegas.

Another flight C player, Alexander Medved (Baloo_rus) won Monday’s session with an impressive 73.86%.
