7 Great Bridge Gifts for Kids and Youth Players

This month is traditional for gift-giving the world over – and I guess some people get bonus points if their birthday falls within the same month. Gifts also happen to be perfect during any point of the year if you’re so inclined.

If you know a young card player who might take well to bridge (or someone who is already playing)

1. Another Card Deck

Card decks are always a great gift for card players. If someone else gave you a card deck, you’d love it – right? The same is surely true for any other players that you know.

If you know someone who naturally loves cards, they could almost always use another card deck – even if they mostly play online and just love keeping a collection of decks.

Sometimes themed decks are appropriate, other times someone can benefit best from the standard Bicycle range.

2. Card-Themed Jewelry

Not everyone wears jewelry, but if your chosen bridge gift-ee is known to from time to time, there’s a lot of great card or suit-themed jewelry to choose from.

I’ve got a particular love for charm jewelry that can be engraved and added to as games are won and milestones are achieved over time.

3. A Complete Bridge Kit

If the someone that you know is a new bridge player entirely, they might benefit from a complete bridge kit. There are many available on bridge and card supply websites, most of them well made and with a few added bells & whistles.

If something more customized than a complete bridge kit is a better fit, start with a small portable table, a card deck, trump markers, booklets, sheets  (which can also be purchased) and pens.

4. Vintage Trump Markers

Many sites (including eBay) are home to vintage items. Sometimes you strike it lucky at pawn shops, thrift stores or yard sales, too – or occasionally, you might already have something to pass on.

Vintage card decks are popular (but have already been suggested here!), so what about sourcing vintage trump markers? Many are available, and usually not too expensive.

5. Bridge Clothing

Clothing with a catchy bridge-related slogan or logo can be found online – and even shipped directly to whoever you’re gifting it to. Cool clothing always makes for a great gift, and it’s so much better if it fits the theme.

6. A Subscription to BBO Prime

A subscription to BBO Prime helps newcomers find their way around easier, with access to a private club, bridge articles, a badge on their user profile and a lot of extras that any bridge player can appreciate.

7. The Great Gift Voucher

If you’re still not sure what to get someone after reading through this list, opt for a gift voucher from a major retailer – possibly one that they might already be using.

I’m always weary of buying books just because it’s hard to tell if someone has a duplicate unless you can check for yourself (or betray what you’re doing by asking).

There are many great bridge-related books available on mainstream sites like Amazon or the Google Play Store: Even a few movies that will catch fans of card players and bridge.

Gift vouchers leave the choice up to them, and can make for a great accompanying gift with something else, too.
