Quick Guide for players interested in organizing online games for their friends.
Welcome to Bridge Base Online! Here are a few tips and tricks to help you migrate some of your usual bridge sessions online.
The simplest and fastest way to get started is to get your friends online on BBO and organize some free, private games with them.
If your club is interested in migrating some of the club activity online, contact us at [email protected] and we’ll do our best to assist.
Create your BBO username
To create a BBO account, visit www.bridgebase.com and click Login/Register. Then, click “Become a member (free!)“
Once your friends have registered on BBO, find out what their BBO usernames are, so you can find them online and invite them to play.
Start a table
If you simply want to sit and shuffle a few hands with your friends: Start a table, reserve seats for your friends and you can just start playing.
Click CASUAL, then Start a table. Remember to reserve the seats for your players when creating the table.
Play tournaments
Click COMPETITIVE, then All Tournaments. You will notice many robot games and individual tournaments, but there are pair games too (the ACBL Speedballs for instance).
Click any tournament to view the details and register.
Type your partner’s username in the Invite box, and click the Invite button. You both need to be online.
Team Matches
Available for free. After you login, click COMPETITIVE, then Team Matches. There is a Create Team Match button below the list of pending matches. Suitable for small groups (two tables).
Remember to reserve the seats for your players when creating the match, otherwise you will be flooded with requests to join from random players.
If you are very new to BBO, this feature may not be available to you. Ask a more experienced BBOer in your group to create them for you.
Other useful links and tips
Update ACBL number. This page allows you to upload your ACBL number to your BBO account, and have your masterpoints reported to the ACBL.
Purchase BB$. This page allows you to buy BBO dollars. They are needed to pay entry fees for pay tournaments on the site. Most tournaments are free, but if you wish to play pay games that issue masterpoints, you will need BB$ to pay the entry fee.
Myhands, results, history. The Hand Records database allows you to access your hand records. Recent tournament results can also be accessed on BBO, in the History panel, to the right hand side of your screen.
