My name is Csaba Daday, I am a physicist from Romania currently living in Göttingen, Germany.
I have been playing bridge for 15 years and making videos on BBO for 5 years. Most of the time, I was commenting on weekly free instants and similar robot games, but these days, I am playing and commenting “virtual club evenings”.
gwnn plays with J Li
In this video, played virtually in an online tournament with players from my club in Göttingen, my partner is Julius Linde, multiple German national champion and current coach of the German Women’s national team. We played 22 boards, IMP pairs scoring.
You can listen to my thoughts as I play the hands and sometimes some post mortem as well in the chat. For people interested in exotic systems, we are playing Polish Club with many transfers. (I will probably explain Polish Club in a seminar series in the near future. Stay tuned for that as well.)
Enjoy the video!

Can not watch hands – sound is too feeble – why bother showing such videos
Hi Anonymous. I am sorry about that, I know that sometimes the videos can be on the quiet side. I will make them louder next time.
One of the best players in Germany, I emjoyed it a lot, thanks Csaba!
Thankd Fluffy! But do you mean Julius or me? 🤓
The sound was perfect. You don’t need to change anything. Some people can be so rude. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Shimmie 🙂 I think it’s understandable to be frustrated at low-volume Youtube videos. I bought a decent microphone a few months ago, and it improved the signal-to-noise ratio. But it’s still a bit less loud than I’d like it to be, and if people are used to one volume, I can see why they’d be annoyed at lower ones. And yes people are rude too, but it’s the internet 🙂
I WANT TO PLAY
Enjoyed your video. On Board 4, bidding went P-1D-2S-3S; P-3NT-P-6NT- All pass. Some people play that 3S cue bid asks for a spade stopper. How would you have bid with 21 HCP’s but no SA?
Hey Lizard12,
I’d have bid 3H, transfer to spades, asking for a stopper. Partner can accept the transfer (3S) if they have half a stop.
You can play:
2NT: transfer to clubs (about 8+ so constructive)
3C: transfer to diamonds (showing a fit here)
3D: transfer to hearts
3H: asks for a stopper
3S: demands a 3NT bid
For 1m openings, this works okay, but for 1H or 1S, you probably want to rearrange the transfers so have two ways of showing a fit rather than have a stop ask.
For instance
1H-(2D)-?
2H/S = NF
2N = clubs
3C = spades
3D = good raise
3H = bad raise
3S = transfer to NT
With a pure stop ask you can either X the first round or show clubs or just bid 3S and cross your fingers. 🙂
