Bridge Quiz Books (for Quizzing About Bridge)

Bridge isn’t just about playing bridge online; there also happens to be other facets to the same game, including a wealth of bridge puzzles and trivia questions that can keep a bridge player busy for centuries if we had the time on our hands to do so.

Even though quiz books often don’t fall into the category of lessons or instruction manuals, it’s amazing how much you can learn about a single topic through quizzes and trivia.

Here are some great bridge quiz books (for quizzing about bridge).

  • A First Book of Bridge Problems (by Patrick O’Connor)
A First Book of Bridge Problems shows the reader 50 different bridge hand puzzles and how to solve them. Also available is an accompanying CD for a more interactive view of the same bridge problems. The book also spawned a sequel, appropriately named A Second Book of Bridge Problems.

  • Bidding at Bridge (by Barbara Seagram; David Bird)
Barbara Seagram is a goddess in the pantheon of bridge – and together with David Bird, they’ve introduced thousands of players to the wonders of the game. Bidding at Bridge: A Quiz Book contains bridge puzzles for beginners and more advanced players. It was also crowned the ABTA Book of the Year for 2013.

  • Charles Goren’s Bridge Quiz Book (by Charles Goren)
This compendium of bridge questions dates from the ’40s, and it’s a great one if you can track down a copy. Charles Goren is one of the notable figures we can thank for Bridge As We Have It Today – and here’s his take on bridge puzzles.
  • Defensive Play at Bridge (by Barbara Seagram; David Bird)
Defensive Play at Bridge is another undeniably great book from the combination of Seagram-and-Bird. This goes together well with the first book – almost well enough for them to be called companion compendiums (if you’ll excuse the instance of alliteration…)

  • Collins’ Bridge Quiz Book (by Bernard Magee)
The Collins Bridge Quiz Book is a healthy mixture of bridge puzzles and trivia questions (more than 150 of these) that is bound to keep any bridge player busy – and it has something for players of every level.

  • The Deadly Defence Quiz Book (by Ron Klinger)
Bridge is about the art of card-based warfare just as much as any other card game you could think of to trade with; it’s about defending just as much as attacking. Here’s The Deadly Defence Quiz Book, specifically for working on defense techniques in the game of bridge.

  • Victor Mollo’s Bridge Quiz Book (by Victor Mollo)
From another Bridge Great, here’s the Victor Mollo Quiz Bridge Book containing 160 different bridge puzzles for players of every difficulty level.

  • The London Evening Standard Bridge Quiz Book (by David Bird)
A collection of 100 problems from the Evening Standard bridge column. The book covers card playing techniques, bidding tips and things to remember when you’re playing bridge.
