Ask What YOU Can Do for Bridge

Ask not what bridge can do for you, ask what YOU can do for bridge.

Playing the game is the most obvious way to show your support for the game itself, but there are a myriad of others way to show how much the game means to you.

Why am I taking the time to mention this?

It’s essential to pass on the love of bridge today if we’d like to see the game continuing tomorrow.

Here are practical suggestions for what players can do to support more bridge in 2021

Tell Someone About Bridge

I know about contract bridge today because someone took the time to show me that it was out there. (How many other bridge players can agree with this statement?)

Telling someone about bridge is one of the greatest things you can do for the game.

Once you’ve mentioned it, the person might be inspired to look up the game – they might even continue playing it.

That’s a pretty good deed.

Meme the Game

Memes are great because they cross together humor with almost any topic that you can imagine to include. (Yes, including thousands of inappropriate ones…)

Why not bridge?

If you’ve had a funny, original thought about bridge, share it with the rest of us!

It might even go viral.

Donate to the Game

Could any of your beloved bridge websites use a donation around this time of year?

We all love bridge websites, but should remember that these sites have operating costs that their readership (that’s us) could help with.

If you’re not in a position to donate cash yourself, there’s nothing wrong with inspiring others to give instead.

Every bit helps, as the expression goes.

Support Your Local Bridge Club

Always show support for your local bridge club and chosen bridge federation.

Again, it’s true that every bit helps – and I don’t just mean financial support.

There are many ways to support bridge clubs. Share their stuff, send members their way, subscribe to their mailing lists, join up, show up to games…

If we’d like to see more bridge, support some clubs.

Share Bridge News

Seen something that you like – or read something you’ve enjoyed?

Share it.

Sharing means reading, and reading means support. It might even turn some new hands in the direction of the game.

Buy a Bridge Book

Have you bought any bridge books recently?

The answer to the question should always be yes (or at least a maybe).

Looking at the bigger picture, bridge books are out there because their publishers and writers receive support.

To paraphrase from Field of Dreams: if you read them, they will write.
