Abuse on BBO (and What to Do)

Bridge Base Online is one of the best places to play online bridge – and we’d like to keep it that way. While administrators are doing their best to keep the game clean and fair, violations and abuses should be reported for BBO to know about it.

Here’s what to do if you spot any rule violations or abuse on the BBO platform.

Report Abuse Here
Contact abuse@bridgebase.com for reporting rule violations, obscenity or member abuse.

From there, BBO administrators can take a closer look at what happened and act accordingly. Usually, this means issuing a warning to the user, but bans are also issued when it comes to severe (or repetitive) abuses of the rules or other members.

A Look at What’s Not Allowed

So, what can’t you do?

Here’s a look at some of the behaviors that get you banned from the BBO platform. Don’t be the person doing it, and please send a message to BBO if you happen to see someone else doing it.

1. NO Abuse via IM

Inappropriate or unwanted communication is exactly that: inappropriate or unwanted.

Don’t use the IM feature on BBO to bug or bother other members. Don’t use it to sling abuse back and forth. Don’t use it to be creepy, and don’t use it to say anything you wouldn’t want someone saying to you.

That’s fair, right?

2. NO Spam

Spam is everywhere. It doesn’t need to be on the BBO platform too.

Don’t share promotional links, product links, advertisements for body-part-enlargement pills.

If it has nothing to do with bridge and looks a lot more like spam, it’s likely going to get you a warning. If you do it repeatedly, it’s likely going to result in a ban.

3. NO Sexting on BBO

This brings us to sexting. It’s a lot like spam, but with added nudity.

We have nothing against consensual adult discussions: but BBO isn’t the place! (Remember that administrators can access the IM logs for bridge games; they’ll probably know if anyone isn’t wearing pants.)

If you’re speaking to another BBO member and feel some sparks flying, there are many other messaging platforms to take the discussion to.

4. NO UI Discussions

Unauthorized Information, simply, is sharing information about the table or hand when you’re not supposed to.

If you’re cheating the game through unauthorized information (or through any other means), the BBO  team is certainly not going to stand for it.

Users who suspect any UI floating around can contact the abuse line, too.

5. Keep it PG

Discussions and forum posts should be kept PG.

Bridge – especially online bridge – is played by people of all ages. We don’t want BBO to be the first place where kids pick up words you can’t say on television, do we? This also applies to any memes or links that cross the line.

It seems obvious, but no adult images or links are allowed here, either.

If it’s something that could get you fired if you accessed it at work, don’t share it on BBO.

6. NO Table Insults

BBO has rules that apply to profanity. But just in case someone tries to find a loophole by insulting players without resorting to crude language, let’s broaden the definition to include table insults.
