6 Pickup Lines Made For Bridge (Or Not)

Bridge might be a partnership game, but I know many people in the bridge world who would consider themselves still single and looking for their partner.

Since the game is a great way to forge connections with people, it’s only natural that many marriages have been put together around the table.

I’ve heard a lot of bridge players say that they knew straight away when spotting their partner-to-be at a bridge game, club, or tournament.

There’s that moment of connection.

And then what?

I can think of many people who can’t get a single word out beyond that very connection. There’s a spark, but the brain gives up.

Saying hello works fine, but what about bridge appropriate pickup lines?

I’m not sure we have any. I figured it was time to think of a couple.

Here are 6 pickup lines for the bridge world. (Although don’t blame me when they go South.)

1: “Is that an ace up your sleeve?”

On second thought, I don’t think saying this to anyone at a bridge game is a good idea. Let’s not.

2: “Trick or treat?”
For bonus points, say this during the correct time of year. Outside of a Halloween party context, it might be the creepiest thing the recipient gets to hear that week.

3: “Oh, darn. The deck’s missing the jokers, but I’ve got a spare at my place.”
Of course, a game of bridge isn’t played with the jokers at all, but feel free to extend an invite trying to find them as a premise for trying to hook up.

4: “Holy crap, was that Ely Culbertson?”
No, it wasn’t. Ely Culbertson has been dead for a long time. But it’s a great conversation starter if you’re lost for a topic.

5: “Did anyone get bingo yet?”
Next, see how they react. That’s another conversation starter right there. (At worst, you’ll be met with total confusion.)

6: “Excuse me, do you have a moment for a rubber?”

I’d be very surprised if nobody in bridge has ever hooked up with a risqué line referencing rubbers. (But really, has nobody, ever?)
