Gadgets For Better Online Bridge Playing

The necessary basic things you will need for an online bridge game isn’t much. An internet connected device, and an internet connection (then, of course, more or less knowing how to play a trick or two).

But there is also good reason for a bridge player to expand their playing kit beyond the very basics.

If you’re a fan when it comes to gadgets for your PC or smartphone, there are many out there that can augment or supplement how you play bridge.

Heated Mouse Pads

I can think of many players who might not realize the difference that heated mouse pads can make. Guaranteed in cold weather (or with conditions like arthritis), you can expect them to save your hands.

Don’t let the cold freeze your bridge game.

USB Fridges

Because BBO is here to host bridge games from all over the world, I figured we should take it from one temperature extreme to the next. If you’re from somewhere you need it to be cool instead, invest in a USB fridge and make sure your favourite drink is never far away.

It’s amazing what USB can power. It turns out a one-drink fridge is one of those things.

Wireless/Bluetooth Headsets

Modern bridge is increasingly taking place online, and with streaming to boot. It requires some adaptation for the more advanced online player – and you’ll probably need a few more things if you intend on streaming or recording your game.

Invest in a high-quality wireless or Bluetooth-powered headset. It guarantees clarity, and most of them are a comfortable fit.

USB Keypads

Many modern laptops (and some external keyboards) lack the numpad function that most gamers are used to. BBO has many shortcuts, and you can play your card by typing the first letter of the suit and the number – so why make things hard on yourself in the heat of the game?

Invest in a simple USB keypad if you like to play with the addition of a numpad to your game. It’s much cheaper than replacing the whole keyboard just for a small section.

USB Clocks

A USB clock seems like such a simple gadget, and almost too simple to use an entire port for. But there’s a good argument to doing it for your bridge game.

Timing is important in bridge. Timing between moves, timing between games. And it’s easy to forget to check the clock in the corner of your screen as you play (plus, this could strain your eyes even when you don’t notice).

Give your eyes a break between moves and get a USB-powered clock to look at. It should aid your timing, and should help your eyes.

USB Hubs

Many laptops are issued with fewer USB hubs than the average person is comfortable with – and the advanced user should be horrified the moment they realize only two things can be plugged in at once.

It’s inconvenient, and it doesn’t have to be.

Get a USB hub. They allow for one port to be turned into several, and you’ll have more of the gadgets you need.

Which gadgets have you attached to your smartphone or computer to make sure your bridge games are a more comfortable experience?
