Resources For Bridge Designers

If there’s one more general statement I could add to the world of bridge, it would be that the game draws a wide scope of different people to the tables every day.

Bridge fans includes lawyers, doctors, janitors, writers, bloggers, students, tattoo artists, seemingly more lawyers, and almost every career that you could think of to include here (if you were brandishing a bright red pen).

The game also draws graphic designers, artists, and those with a fine attention to detail.

If you’re a designer in bridge (or possibly, just trying to create a bridge meme in a hurry), here are some of the best resources for bridge designers.

As a side-note before the start, always remember to check copyright (and usage rights) with the website and copyright holder – especially when it comes to commercial use of any resources listed here!

Fonts

A good font is hard to find. I’ve done some of the hard work so that you can skip out on most of the font-finding. Start with these:

Urban Fonts: Card Characters

https://www.urbanfonts.com/fonts/Card_Characters.htm

Card Characters can be found here. It’s a pretty simple font, but it’s also perfect when simplicity is what you need most for your design.

Harold’s Fonts: Card Characters

https://www.haroldsfonts.com/font/card-characters/

This font is specifically based on what you’ll see on standard Bicycle decks. If that’s exactly what you need, then start here.

Font Space: Playing Cards Category

https://www.fontspace.com/category/playing-cards/

Font Space has an entire category just for playing card-related fonts – and lucky for the visual bridge player, there are many available on this page. They appear to be uploaded by users, so remember to double-check individual copyright if you would like to use a font commercially.

Hoyle Playing Cards Font

If you lean towards Hoyle instead of the classic Bicycle, here’s the font that was practically made just for you. Enjoy!

Stock Libraries

For the record, this type of stock has nothing to do with cooking. Stock images can be used either as-is (or purchased from available platforms for a fee) depending on their individual copyrights.

Here are some contract bridge-appropriate stock libraries for starters:

123RF is another great stock library that might be a little lesser-known than its counterparts, but happens to be just as comprehensive. If you’re getting tired of search engines showing you pictures of the Golden Gate, see their photos tagged with “bridge game” here.
