6 Longer bridge selections from YouTube

Whenever I want to learn about something new, YouTube tends to be one of the first websites I’ll visit to gather information.

It’s useful for learning how to cook a steak in different ways, for seeing how to do some basic repairs around the house, and it’s just as useful for learning more about bridge.

But your playlist doesn’t have to be limited to short YouTube videos – especially not when it’s the topic of bridge. If you have more than ten minutes to spare, YouTube has excellent longer videos to occupy your time.

In the mood for a bridge video about as long as the average television show episode, or do you have a spare three-hours for bridge viewing?

Have a look at these 6 longer bridge selections from YouTube.

1. Bridge with Shaw Taylor

Bridge With Shaw Taylor is a bridge instructional from the days of VHS-tapes. (Kids, if you don’t yet know what a VHS-tape was, watch a movie called The Ring…)

If you have a spare three hours, this is a great session of the game to view.

It’s great because of the relaxed, typical card-room feel of the entire recording. It also helps that it features some of the experts of bridge showing off their tricks.

2. In the cards: The Secret World of Professional Bridge

In The Cards is a short documentary about the professional bridge world, released in the year 2007.

Whether you’ve only started out playing recently, or whether you have been playing for decades, you’ll enjoy watching this. Fans of documentaries, table games, and bridge should all add this to their watch-list.

What’s the length?

Approximately 46 minutes.

3. Marit Sveaas international Bridge Tournament 2016

Here’s the longest lengthy bridge video on this list.

The Marit Sveaas International Bridge Tournament for 2016 measures in at an incredible 6 hours (and 44 minutes).

You’ll have to set out some serious time for bridge in your day if you want to watch the whole thing from start to finish – but it’s worth it for gaining the experience of hands played on the day.

4. 2018 Summer NABC

If the length of the International Bridge Tournament video above tickles your bridge interests, here’s a video of the 2018 Summer NABC tournament from the official ACBL NABC YouTube account.

The video describes a whole four hours worth of streaming.

That’s a handful-and-a-half of bridge deals!

5. How to play the card game bridge

There are many videos on YouTube about how to play bridge and how the basic mechanics of the game works.

I found this 26 minute explanatory video from an uploader called villager life. It runs the viewer through the very basics of bridge – but without any of it being overwhelming.

Check out the rest of the uploader’s stuff for even more cool videos about other pastimes and their day-to-day life.

6. The Devil’s Tickets: Contract Bridge & Murder

The Devil’s Tickets is a 26 minute-long video seminar by Gary Pomerantz – and while it’s not heavy on bridge theory, it might be one of the most interesting bridge-related videos out there right now.

The Bridge Table Murder describes one of the most infamous shootings (and hopefully, one of the only ones) to ever occur at a bridge table. While there are many books about the topic, this video ties in nicely if you want to get to know the facts surrounding the case. Fans of mystery and card games, take note!
