5 Bridge players (& their masterpoints)

Masterpoints measure the serious bridge matches and tournaments which a bridge player has been part of. If you are an ACBL member, the games you’ve played (and won) add up over time – and prolific players have built up their numbers well into the thousands.

Have you ever wondered about which bridge players out there are the highest-ranked?

Here’s a look at 5 bridge players (& their amount of Masterpoints)

If you’d like to see an official list of ranked players by their amount of Masterpoints, see the following searchable catalogue on the ACBL website. Specific search criteria can be defined if your search needs to be more refined.

1. Jeff Meckstroth

Jeff Meckstroth is certainly a legendary bridge player, writer, and card celebrity.

Games involving the Meckwell-team have been widely written about in almost every bridge publication that a player could think of to mention. Their games have also been studied extensively – and, well, that’s because Meckstroth fits the definition of a damn good bridge player.

A lifetime in bridge has accumulated an incredible 92661.24 points at the time of writing.

The way he’s known to play, expect the number to be higher by the time you’re done reading this sentence.

2. Mike Passell

Mike Passell was born in 1947, and was inducted into the ACBL Hall of Fame in 2008 for his list of accomplishments.

Just his list of tournament wins is enough to strike terror into the hands of anyone set to compete against him. It’s like having to battle a video game’s final boss.

As for his amount of total Masterpoints, it currently stands at 87760.39 at the time of writing.

Can you tell why I used the word “terror”?

3. Eric Rodwell

Eric Rodwell is a professional bridge player and writer, sometimes known as the other half of the famous Meckwell-partnership.

From his list of total wins, he’s won the Bermuda Bowl a total of five times. That’s impressive and terrifying at the same time.

His list of won NABCs? Fifty-seven.

That’s even more impressive, but also terrifying.

His total amount of Masterpoints isn’t far off from Meckstroth, at a total of 78138.09.

4. Eddie Wold

Eddie Wold is another Texan-born ACBL Masterpoint celebrity, who has been a serious player since a friend introduced him to the game in his University days.

More than a bridge champion, he is a well-known as a bridge teacher in the Houston area, too. Like other players on this list, Wold has recorded an incredible number of large-scale bridge tournament wins in his time as player.

Decades in bridge played with admirable enthusiasm for anyone has collected Wold an amazing number of 76447.56 points (and counting)

5. Mark Lair

Mark Lair was born in 1947, and was inducted into the ACBL Hall of Fame for his contract accomplishments in 2009.

Incredibly, he’s another one of the ACBL Life Masters who hails from Texas. It’s only natural to assume that card players from the place Texas Hold’em got its name are really, really good at it.

Years in successful bridge has bestowed Lair with an incredible 71449.98 Masterpoints so far.
