I love watching the stars.
I often imagine the sheer number of people who could be looking up at the same stars right now, or the astronomical amount of people who have seen the same skies since ancient times.
When the cold settles in, the night’s creatures wake up to move around under the same stars. Nightjars, crickets, bats, mice.
I’ve found that it’s the best time for finding ideas. When I need some creative sparking, I’ll grab a notebook and look at the stars.
What does this have to do with bridge?
I would say everything, if you believe in the knowledge of the stars.
Here’s what your bridge horoscope has to say.
March 21 to April 19
If you were born under the sign of Aries, you should remember that your star sign represents the ram. Rams are naturally hard-headed (but also notoriously strong-stomached). When a difficult situation presents itself, you can expect to find your way out of things – just remember to use your head when planning how.
April 20 to May 20
Taurus is the other star sign notorious for their hard-headedness, but also for their associated strength when things get tough. Others might rely on you for help when it comes to a situation they currently face. Instead of brute force to break out of the problem, slow down and think before charging at the presented stumbling block.
May 21 to June 21
The star sign of Gemini is often called on for their help, and you should know that you very well might be asked for help. Does someone need help with their bridge conventions or plays? Present a helping hand and point them in the way of much-needed resources. What would they do without you?
June 22 to July 22
The crab’s star sign is related to water, and this is something to keep in mind as you move forward playing bridge. Could you learn a few more tricks from a bridge cruise soon, or are the stars telling you that you should work swimming into your exercise routine? Well, only time will tell… But consider taking a bridge cruise!
July 23 to August 22
The star sign of Leo represents strength, and often matches up with people who are called on by everyone in their immediate environment to be “the strong one”. Sometimes, it’s okay to step back from others to focus on yourself. Something about it might say bridge cruise, new bridge book, or subscription to your favourite magazine. Do something you’ve always wanted.
August 23 to September 22
The star sign of Virgo can sometimes have a naïve edge to it. For some, it means they walk straight into bad situations – or that their kindness gets exploited. What does it mean for your bridge playing? Make sure that your partnership is an equal one. If your experience doesn’t match up with your bridge partner, practice more, or switch to another.
September 23 to October 23
Libra represents balance, and generally those born under this sign crave balance in their lives above all things. Order is preferred, and the Libra doesn’t like things that are out of place. Is it time for a spring-cleaning? Re-pack your library, reorganize your bridge resources, or go through old videos and bridge games. You’ll feel far more balanced as a result.
October 24 to November 21
The scorpion’s star sign is notorious for their sting. Even though they don’t always like to admit it, Scorpio signs clash with many others. Have you had a recent disagreement with someone about bridge? If the answer is no, then the stars might be telling you to prepare for one. Play nice!
November 22 to December 21
The star sign of Sagittarius represents the great archer. If you have something in your sights that you’ve always wanted to achieve, consider what more you can do to get towards your goal. If you’d like to learn specific things, practice specific things, or enter specific tournaments, now might be the best time for you to take the leap.
December 22 to January 19
The sign of Capricorn is associated with the goat. What this means for those born under this sign is that Capricorns will try to eat anything. Be careful with your bridge game diet, and consider what you eat carefully. Indigestion is not a fun consequence for bridge, but the stars indicate that you might have to watch out for it.
January 20 to February 18
The star sign of Aquarius is the water bearer: Another sign that runs close to the element of water, it’s also another sign that others frequently count upon. Could you teach someone about the game of bridge when they cross your path? Mention bridge to the next non-player you meet, and provide them with the best bridge-related resources you have.
February 19 to March 20
The star sign of Pisces represents the fish. Their traditional characteristics includes their kindness, and sometimes the need to blend into the rest of the school. But what if, just this once, you didn’t? Go against the status quo, and do something that you normally would not. Learn a new form of bridge, or choose now as the time to enter a bigger tournament. Go against the stream and see what happens!
