Hollywood actors & their preferred card games

Acting is a profession that seems like a lot of flair and fame is involved, but it also involves a great deal of hard work – and time that’s spent on set. When the movies or TV shows have been shot, “famous” and well-known personalities also have hobbies and pastimes just like everyone else.

You’d be surprised at how often the pastime involves cards!

From Magic: The Gathering to whist, it turns out that cards can be a relaxing, engaging hobby for everyone.

Have you ever wondered about Hollywood actors & their preferred card games?

1. Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a massive list of films to his name, including 500 Days Of Summer, Snowden, Premium Rush, and The Dark Knight Rises. He also starred in the television show 3rd Rock From The Sun, which sky-rocketed his face to fame in the first place.

More recently, he starred in The Trial Of The Chicago 7 – undeniably, an excellent movie.

Which movie do you happen to know him best from?

He’s known to be an enthusiastic Magic: The Gathering player. Gordon-Levitt even talked about his favourite card during a Reddit session.

The important question is… What’s his screen name?

2. Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks has made more Great Movies than this article would have the space to list. He starred in Big, Castaway, The Da Vinci Code, The Green Mile, Captain Phillips, Saving Mr Banks, and the Toy Story franchise.

The list goes on – but how much time would you have to read the entire filmography right here?

Hanks is a regular player of Bid Whist and Spades, both two trick-taking games similar in nature to bridge.

He’s gone on record to discuss his history learning to play, and elaborated just a little on strategy during the same interview.

How do you imagine he would play as a bridge partner?

3. Ben Affleck

Actor Ben Affleck is the star of movies like Reindeer Games, Daredevil, Argo, Smokin’Aces, and an equally massive list of others.

If you’ve ever read resources on the actor’s history, you’ll quickly note his love for card games. He won the California Poker Championship in 2004 – and no, that’s not his only accomplishment in this particular card game.

His love for cards also spilled over to the Blackjack tables. Unfortunately, he’s also banned from several casinos for his ability to play Blackjack just that little bit too well…

4. Tobey Maguire

Tobey Maguire is well-known for his versatility, and his movies have included ones such as Pleasantville, Spider-Man, The Great Gatsby, and Pawn Sacrifice.

He’s famous in card circles, though, for his definitive love of poker. If you watch Pawn Sacrifice, you’ll surely notice his love for the tabletop show.

Reportedly, he plays with enough fire to have had a character in Molly’s Game apparently based on him. (Unfortunately, Macgure is said to enjoy particularly mean table banter if any reports are to be believed…)

Of course, one can’t help but wonder how he’d play through thirteen tricks at a bridge game.

5. Serena Williams

Serena Williams is an international tennis champion – and yes, she’s made more than a couple of cameo appearances, which means that she still counts for this particular Hollywood-star card list.

Her choice?

According to articles about her playing and pastimes, her preferred game happens to be Uno.

Hey, it’s still arguably a trick-taker!

Do you think Serena is as unbeatable at cards as she is at tennis
