TCR and MCR Numbers on Profiles

Do you wonder about the meaning of these numbers on Bridge Base Online (BBO) and how they can be influenced or changed?

Tournament Completion Rate (TCR)

The Tournament Completion Rate (TCR) is an automatically calculated statistic for everyone who enters a BBO tournament. It records the frequency with which a player completes the tournaments they enter.

If a player has a TCR of 90%, it means they complete 90% of the tournaments they enter.

TCRs are tracked on a rolling 60-day basis and include “timed” tournaments played on BBO. These tournaments are typically games played in real time, where one of the players leaving mid-way can negatively impact the experience of everyone else in that game.

A minimum of 10 tournament entries is required before a TCR score can be computed. A finished tournament adds a +1 to your score, while an uncompleted tournament subtracts -1. This applies to any tournament where leaving prematurely inconveniences other players or Tournament Directors (TDs), such as ACBL pairs or individual, private club pairs or individual games, free tourney pairs, etc.

Substitutes are not penalized if they fail to complete a tournament due to being replaced by the Tournament Director. However, if they complete the tournament in which they are subbing, it positively contributes to their TCR. Subbing is an excellent way to increase your TCR percentage.

Tournament Directors have the option to set a minimum TCR score for their tournaments. Only players who meet or exceed this score will be able to register for these tournaments.

Main Completion Rate (MCR)

The Main Completion Rate (MCR) is another automatically calculated statistic for everyone who plays casual games on BBO in the Main or Relaxed Bridge rooms. It tracks how often a player completes a hand they begin.

For example, an MCR of 99% means the player finishes 99% of the hands they start.

MCRs are tracked on a rolling 30-day basis and include all casual hands played on BBO. A minimum of 10 hands begun is required before an MCR score can be calculated. You “begin” a hand when you make your first bid. To “complete” the hand, you must continue to play until the next hand is dealt. If you finish the hand you begin, you earn a +1. If you leave before the hand is completed (i.e., before the next hand is dealt), you receive a -1. However, there are exceptions where no penalties apply:

  • When the hand is redealt
  • If someone else has already left the hand prematurely
  • When there are any robot players
  • If you’re the dummy when you leave

Table hosts can select a minimum MCR for their tables. When a player requests permission to join a table where “permission to join” is needed, the host will see the player’s MCR and can decide whether or not to allow them to join.
