Similar to last time, Eli Jolley and I tried our luck in an ACBL speedball recently. This time, it was an IMP tournament, so big scores and thin games can make all the difference. We got some big scores and brought home some thin games, so how did we fare?
Listening to both sides can help you see how well/badly two players on a similar level but not a lot of agreements can understand each other. Mostly very well. You can try to listen to both streams at the same time, plus/minus some pauses. By the way, the idea was that we’d try Polish Club in this session, but in the end, there were no hands out of 12 where the system actually made a difference.
Thanks partner!! Make sure you subscribe to Eli’s channel and maybe mine too.

wow
they do not commentate; they comment
dictionary.com does have it as commentate: https://www.dictionary.com/browse/commentate
But I don’t really like the verb myself, I agree. 🙂
dictionaries usually put in what people do not what they ought to do
I think it is interesting that this thread turned into a debate about linguistic prescriptivism. I would have liked a discussion on the 12 actual bridge boards that we played and commented/commentated on. Oh well!
I think you mean “I don’t like this word. It is in the dictionary but please don’t use it.” rather than “You ought not to use it.”
Anyway, personally I’m not a big fan of it, but when it’s specifically about play-by-play, then I find it more descriptive.
PS I trust the dictionary over personal preference.
