Re question 10 Sherlock Holmes DID play bridge.
He appeared in a short story entitled “Sherlock Holmes,Bridge
Detective” by Frank Thomas and George Gooden published in 1973 It was subtitled “The Adventure of the Panamanian Girls”
The quiz refers to the original Sherlock stories, not to fan fiction written by others.
Sherlock Holmes, Bridge Detective published by Hale Bridge Books.
Bonus Question:
Woodstock’s bridge partner can occasionally be found:
1) on a cruise on The HMS Beagle
B) in a WWI1 aerial dogfight
3) in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade
4) all of the above
E) only B and 3 of the above
6) only 1 and 3 of the above
7) none of the above
The Sherlock Holmes stories are, themselves, fictitious based on a fictitious character created by
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The name “Sherlock Holmes” even though it’s based on a non entity is
still subject to copyright and the co authors of the story would have had to apply to the Conan Doyle
Estate for permission to use the name.
I believe the WBF rules and regs came out in 1958 – the year of my birth!
