Sunday: BBO Prime Q&A – Ask us anything!

UPDATE: Here’s the transcript, in case you missed this Sunday’s Q&A.

This Sunday, November 24, at noon US Eastern Time (6PM Central European Time) join us on BBO for a 2-hour BBO Prime Questions and Answers session where you can ask everything you ever wanted to know about the purple badges that sprung all over BBO, the new Prime Bridge Club, exclusive bridge articles and whatever else you’re curious or confused about.

Four valiant BBO hosts and staffers will start a table in the Main Bridge Club, play, chat, joke and take questions from kibitzers. Join us for some fun and first-hand answers straight from BBO’s top staffers.

Who will be your hosts?

Diana_Eva (Diana Serban) currently manages operations at BBO, which is a delicate way to say that she does whatever is needed to keep the machinery glued together, from testing to writing, advertisements, events, mopping floors and making coffee.

Macaw (Karen Owens) has been on BBO since the dawn of times, managing everything ACBL, accounting and finance, the Support crew and a flurry of administrative tasks.

Aurora (Aurora Stoica) is the BBO community pastor. She is the first to jump to rescue an abandoned game, guide newcomers, organize fun events for BBOers or wake up techs in the middle of the night if something goes wrong with the site.

Nolexpeet (Alexandra Quintin) is a new addition to the BBO team. She is currently learning more about BBO and BBOers, but has a vast marketing experience under her belt and has recently joined the BBO A-Team as head of marketing.

This Sunday look for diana_eva, macaw, aurora or nolexpeet in the list of online Hosts or in the list of Main Bridge Club tables and join their table.

Bbo is run by cats. I always suspected that.

If I understand BBO Prime cost …. I will pay a monthly fee plus any tournament cost I already pay…so will have increased my bridge budget and not sure what I get in return.

Marketing ideas are often not well accepted by customers. I am wearing no badge in real life and would prefer all BBOers to be equal and not some more equal than the others.

As a BBO Prime Member I am wondering about the daily column. Some are interesting and many to me are not. Is there a way to keep the columns I like and eliminate the ones I do not like so I can easily access what I want. How long do the columns stay up?

I am concerned that BBO Prime is just the first step in converting BBO into a pay site. As time goes on, more and more things — robots, clubs, etc — will be shifted to Prime. We will know that the end is near when viewgraphs start moving to Prime. Eventually, old BBO will just be for people to call each other idiots, and then BBO will (understandably) decide to close it down. There is nothing wrong with this: After all, it is your site, and you can charge for it if you want. I just find it sad to see an old friend disappear. Here is my question: Are you prepared to offer any assurances that this isn’t what is going to happen?

I reas some of the “Prime Q and A Transcript. Here is a sample:
    Begin Sample

nolexpeet: yes that is a good suggestion toddship

    macaw: hi britou

    nolexpeet: hello @britou welcome

Diana_Eva: That’s a permanent benefit, not something temporary

    End Sample

Several comments seemed to refer to some hands that were being played somewhere or sometime.

I continued on for a while but I was not getting much out of it. Maybe you could assemble the main points in some organized way and put them up? I really tried, I just didn’t get it.

You are right Ken. We re-did the whole thing as a summary of just the questions and answers. In reality it was more like a play-and-take-questions session, with quite a lot of unrelated chat and jokes, and talk about bridge. Difficult to render that in a transcript 🙂
