This Week on Just Declare

The following week on Just Declare, I got to play bridge at the dentist (see the appropriate column for how the appointment itself went) and played bridge in the taxi on the way home. I played (and lost) another game of bridge while waiting in line for a food order. There were a few morning games of Just Declare played at 4AM, freshly woken up and with three mugs of coffee still kicking in.

Towards the end of the week, I played a few more games of bridge in an extremely tired state just past the witching hour. (These had gone south almost immediately and I can’t say that I’m surprised.)

Although this should illustrate just what I love about playing bridge online – and why I’ve developed a love for any variety of bridge that can be played on the go.

This week on Just Declare was a mixture of mindsets. Some days it went great, other days it went less than great. But that’s fine: Luckily there’s no feature that throws a big red message on the screen that says “YOU’RE A TERRIBLE BRIDGE PLAYER, SIR.”

Just Declare is like a sandbox of sorts, and that’s what I love about it most.

That’s also what makes Just Declare what I consider a revolution for newer bridge players who are still getting to know the game.

A lot of players still practicing are far too self-conscious to sit down at their local bridge game and play terribly, or play just for practice. (This can be a massive stumbling block that prevents a lot of players from learning!)

With Just Declare, the aspect of self-consciousness that stop new players from turning into great players is entirely removed.

To learn how to be a better player, you have to play terribly. You have to experiment. You need the quick-fire aspect of, “I’m going to play this card, see what it does and then reset the system to try something else” in order to learn about cards and what they do during the game.

Have you played Just Declare yet?
