New Here? What to Know About BBO

If you’re one of the many users logging in who are completely new to Bridge Base Online (BBO), welcome! Here’s why BBO is one of the best places for bridge players to be – and some handy links for what you can find here.

BBO is Available for PC and Smartphone

Bridge Base Online is available for both PC and Android / iOS smartphones so that you can log in and play from wherever you are. Visit www.bridgebase.com and click Login/Register to get started. All you need is an internet connection and a web browser.

Just Declare is Powered by BBO

BBO hosts a lot more than just your standard bridge game. It is also home to a lot of bridge resources, bridge software, bridge training software – and other versions of the bridge game, including Just Declare. Designed as a version of Solitaire Bridge, you can play Just Declare any time without the need to log in or download anything. Bids are pre-selected, and the player always takes the Declarer seat. Access it by clicking here.

Different Forms of the Game

In addition to  bridge tournaments and Just Declare, BBO also hosts many other forms of the game, including Just Play Bridge with a never-ending stream of hands and Video Bridge, a classic format reminiscent of classic casino-style Video Poker.

An Extensive Vugraph Archive

Vugraph is the official way to keep your eye on a bridge game, used by most of the world’s leading clubs and tournaments. You can find BBO’s extensive archive of previous games available by clicking on this link and going through the list or entering your search terms for a specific tournament or match.

Meet GIB, the AI Bridge Player

BBO’s official AI bridge player is called GIB, and he’s one of the best around.

He’s to bridge what Deep Blue is to chess, and BBO is constantly improving how GIB works and thinks during real-life games.

BBO Forums Are Over Here

BBO also happens to host a great forum about all things bridge – and of course, you can talk about anything else in the relevant  threads. There’s a special section for International users, an International Bridge Laws forum and a place to start for beginners – and if you want to know anything specific about the BBO system, there’s the support section. The forum can be accessed directly at this link. Completely off-topic and off-bridge discussions can be found over at the Water Cooler.
