Everything you need to know about the Spring 2020 NABC Robot Individual

What is the “NABC Robot Individual”?

ACBL’s NABC Robot Individual is a multi-day online tournament that awards red and gold masterpoints and an NABC title to the winner. It takes place three times a year, just before ACBL’s National Championships.

About the 2020 Spring NABC Robot Individual (March 14-16)

Format

  • The tournament lasts 3 days: March 14, 15 and 16 (Saturday, Sunday and Monday)
  • It awards red and gold masterpoints, and an NABC title to the winner.
  • This event is stratified (Unlimited/2000/500).
  • Only ACBL members with a valid membership can join.
  • 24 boards each day, Matchpoints
  • You will play with three robots. Each human player is sitting South and has identical robots as partners and opponents.
  • Best hand, human declare, deal pool (see the FAQ for more details about what all this means)
  • Must play each day to move forward to the next day
  • Once you start playing, you have until midnight US Eastern to play your boards for the day
  • You need to play at least 1 board each day to qualify for the next day
  • Unplayed boards are scored as 0 (zero)
  • Each day’s tournament expires at midnight US Eastern time (so if you start playing at 10PM you only have 2 hours to finish your hands, the tourney closes at midnight)

Entry fee, early bird, other discounts

  • Entry fee is $50.
  • If you register before March 9, there’s an early bird discount of $10.
  • If you played the 2019 Fall NABC Robot Individual, you get an additional $6 credit. So if you have played in Fall, and you register early, you pay $34

If you can’t attend the Nationals this is a great way to support the ACBL.

The NABC robot game is the most exciting advertisement for BBO in history! What self-respecting player can resist the golden opportunity to play random bridge for a national championship in the comfort of your home for a paltry stipend of, say, $34? Especially in this time of corona!

Will this tournament still happen now that the NABC is canceled?

Why is there no I/N bracket? The tournament in Columbus was ideal for newer players. Now I feel as if players like me don’t matter. Please change this for the next tournament before Montreal.

We are negotiating with the ACBL to give us permission to offer more variations of the event (including 0-299er games), but we do not have an agreement yet. We hope to be able to add such games to our schedule.

I still cannot get into the NABC tournament! I have been trying for the last six hours. I played yesterday and want to finish the rest of the tournament as I need the red and gold points. Will someone please help me. I have sent several emails but only get an automated reply saying they’ve file a complaint account for me but did not say whether the site is not available, or if it is and I am not doing something right on my end. Strange, but I had no problem yesterday.

I cannot find it either and I only have two hours left in the 24 hr period.

Diana, would you please tell me how I can get into the NABC site so I can play the last of the three day tournament.

This tournament is only geared towards A-level players to fill their coffers with masterpoints. This is the 4th time I have played and the boards are so difficult that it is designed to fail the C level players completely.

DO NOT PLAY in this tournament and spend your money elsewhere. B and C level players do not do well.
