Several Varieties of Bridge on BBO

A few months into the introduction of BBO Prime and its exclusive club, I’m glad to see that readers are still reading – and that the number of active players and readers on the Prime club has increased. It’s fair to say that a lot of people are still new here, and might still be getting used to the way things work on BBO.

There’s more to bridge than just contract, and you can log in to play several unique varieties of bridge here. (There’s also a forum with accompanying Water Cooler to gather by for off-topic and non-bridge discussion, but more about that in other posts.)

Playing more than one variety of bridge on a regular basis can help you to become more familiar with the deck and the game, and it helps to keep your technique fresh and on-point. It can also help you to work on specific techniques at a time – Just Declare is always great for learning how to play before you teach someone how to bid.

If you’re new, here are some of the different bridge games available – and a good reason to play them.

Create Your Own Game or Tournament

Bridge Base Online has the option to create your own game or tournament just by creating a room and adding other players. This is part of why it’s the top online playing choice for bridge clubs and casual bridge games: Just a few clicks and you’re playing live on BBO’s bridge server.

Other than the ability to create your own games and tournaments, there’s a special BBO Prime Bridge Club with games or tournaments you’ll have access to as a Prime member.

Learn to Play Bridge

Learn to Play Bridge is sponsored by the ACBL and ACBL Educational Foundation, and powered by Bridge Base Online. It’s a beginner-to-advanced bridge trainer program that walks you through everything you should know – and visually with pop-up and mouse-over commentary so that you know exactly what’s going on at all times.

It’s one of the best ways to get better at bridge, and it’s not just meant for complete beginners, but can also help players who know the game to advance their play further.

Just Play Bridge

Just Play Bridge features an infinite number of bridge hands with a leaderboard for the top players. It’s the arcade game variety of bridge and you’ll never run out of hands to play.

Bridge 4

Bridge 4 is another arcade variety of bridge that you can find here on BBO: Four deals, also with a leaderboard if you want to test your skills against other BBO players.

Just Declare

Just Declare is a newer variety of bridge that puts you up against robots with a pre-selected contract. It’s one of the best ways to practice practical bridge play without the need to worry about the bidding.

MPs and IMPs

Bridge Base Online is also home to a few duplicate varieties of the game, including MPs and IMPs, both with – of course – a leaderboard. Another great way to practice your game.

Video Bridge

We’re also home to Video Bridge, a variety of bridge that you definitely won’t find anywhere else online. Think of classic video poker played with tokens, but instead, we’re playing bridge. If you haven’t heard of this variety of bridge just yet, check it out.
