Facts about fargo’s bridge game

One of the most famous scenes in bridge is the appearance of the game in the TV show Fargo. Depending on what you watch for entertainment, it might even be the bridge scene that you remember best.

The bridge tournament that most people remember takes place in the first episode of Season 3.

If there’s one thing I’m sure most players here like seeing on television, it’s bridge. Whenever there’s a bridge Easter egg in a show or movie, I enjoy it just that little bit more. It’s often a way for bridge players to issue a nod from one to another.

If you haven’t seen it yet, here is a good place in the article to pause and stream some Fargo. Even if you aren’t a fan of the whole show yet, it’s a great excuse to stream an episode just for the bridge.

Let’s get to some 4 facts about Fargo’s bridge game.

1: The episode has a name.

Each episode of Fargo has an individual name, but you might only know this already if you are an obsessive fan of the show (and look up specific things about Fargo often!).

People refer to this as “the bridge episode” for short. For the record, it actually carries the appropriate title of “The Law Of Vacant Places”.

Yes, it’s a bridge reference.

The law is one worth learning. There are 13 cards in every  hand. Now, when one card is not in one spot, logic says it must be in another – and that’s how you can apply this particular law during the game.

It’s one of those bridge rules that most players have applied, even if they don’t know what it’s called. (But now, of course, you do!)

2: There’s a real fargo duplicate bridge club.

While the events displayed in Fargo (that’s both the movie and television shows) are fictional, there is a real Fargo Duplicate Bridge Club in the world.

Is watching episodes of Fargo a requirement for joining, would you imagine?

If you’ve never seen the show before, this fact might also reveal that Fargo refers to a town in the first place.

3: The episode has a runtime of 66 minutes.

The first air date for the episode was April 19th, 2017.

As a debut season episode, it stands out as strong – and happened to have millions of viewers. I wonder how many of them were inspired to Google the game of bridge after seeing it…

It’s interesting to note that the time period the episode takes place in is December, 2010.

4: The featured song is…

The song featured during the bridge tournament is called Prisencolinensinainciusol.

It was composed by Adriano Celentano, and performed by the composer and his wife. The song runs 3:54 minutes, and is an example of what’s called nonsense verse.

The same song also appears in the show Lone Star.

It’s a pretty cool song.

Do you remember the Fargo bridge episode, or haven’t you seen it yet?

The 3rd season was filmed in Calgary, Alberta and a lot of local bridge players were hired as extras, including myself. All of the players in the episode are actual local players who were recruited at a Sectional tournament at the same hotel much earlier. A few other episodes also had titles that were bridge related.
