not appropriate to have a smoker
It did look ‘odd’ seeing someone smoking these days and I hate being around smokers myself, but he was in his own home presumably, so I’d suggest that what he does there is his business, as long as he’s not breathing smoke over any kids!
Maybe he’ll have a glass of whisky in his other hand next time too, to upset even more busybodying snowflakes?!
